It is a privilege to serve as your child’s principal. This will be my 21st year as an educator - having served in Madison as an intervention specialist and school administrator. Mrs. Schultz is the NES assistant principal. She will be a huge asset to students, staff, and NES families throughout the year! As the instructional leaders of this building, we take the position very seriously, making sure we are creating a positive learning environment while also ensuring your child’s safety.
In this update, you will find several sections:

- Safety First
- Culture and Climate
- Relationships Matter
- High Expectations and Rigor
- Communication is Key
Relationships & New Team Members Our staff understands the importance of relationships. We want our staff to be “Kid Connectors” at all times. We assure you that your Blue Streak will feel RIGHT AT HOME this year at North Elementary!
We would also like to welcome new TEAM members to NORTH.
- Mrs. Ickes is an intervention specialist.
- Mrs. Schultz is an assistant principal.
Key Upcoming Dates
- Open House: Our Open House for ALL GRADES will be Friday, Aug. 16 from 2-3:00 pm to drop off supplies, say hello, and take a walk around the building. An additional Open House will be held for ALL GRADES on Thursday, August 29 from 6-7:00 pm. We’d love to see as many parents/guardians as possible visit the building and meet our staff.
- Kindergarten parents should look for a separate communication about their start to the school year from our Kindergarten team which includes information about the KRA (Kindergarten Readiness Assessments) on August 19 & 20. Details will be in that letter.
- Drop-Off/Pick-Up
- Drop-off in the AM is from 7:30am-7:40am in the driveway off of Redbird Road. Please do not line up before 7:20am to alleviate the traffic on Red Bird Road. *New this year* Blue lines are painted on the sidewalk indicating the Drop Off Zone. When your car enters this zone, students must exit on the right side of the vehicle as quickly as possible. If your child requires more time, please pull into one of the parking spots in front of the office or in the North parking lot and escort your child to the door.
- Pick-up in the PM will be 1:55pm-2:05pm. Please do not line up before 1:45pm – this is very important. Please make sure to have your PICK UP #s displayed in your windshield on the passenger side so we can easily see them. This makes the pickup process much more efficient. New numbers will be coming out from the office and are provided to students in their classrooms. *New this year* Students who are ‘Pick-ups’ greater than two days per week will be issued a PICK UP #. If a student is only picked up occasionally, the student will get a pass and the parent/guardian will need to tell our staff who they are picking up and show ID. Please discard numbers from previous years.
PBIS Incentives Our PBIS matrix is: STREAK (Safety, Teamwork, Responsibility, Effort, and Kindness). We want these five behaviors to happen throughout our building in locations such as: Classroom, Hallways/Restrooms, Cafeteria, Playground and Assemblies. To encourage and reward these behaviors, we will continue with all of our PBIS incentives, including:
- “Treasure Chest” on Fridays for good behavior/effort
- Streak of the Week acknowledgments
- Kindness Badge
- The 212 Board for exceptional work
- Streak tables
- Glow Parties
- Giant Games at Recess
- Selecting students to attend MHS football games and other events
Miss Peters was able to secure a grant this summer to provide some additions to our playground and prizes. Check out our newly painted outdoor basketball court with Hopscotch, Jump game and Four Square games, giant games (Cornhole, Connect Four, Sorry, and Jenga), new playground balls, jump ropes, and other equipment, and additional prizes in our Treasure Chest.
Communication We work hard to be sure we are communicating with our stakeholders on a classroom and building level. Please look for the following throughout the school year and contact us if you have a question/concern that we may address.
- The administration will be sending home a newsletter, called the NE NEWS. This will arrive through Infinite Campus throughout the school year and includes important information, links to access information like the calendar, important dates, school lunch info, pictures, etc.
- We also use social media via our PTO Facebook page.
- Our NE Community Stakeholders calendar contains important dates/times for school events. This calendar changes as new dates are added throughout the school year.
PTO Our PTO does a tremendous job for our school. Their efforts and fundraising allow our students to participate in a variety of educational experiences including field trips, COSI, dances, movie nights, etc. These experiences help support the well-rounded educational experience NORTH provides for all Blue Streaks.
We encourage you to get involved in our PTO. We love having parent volunteers and adults helping in the building. Please sign up to be a member of our North PTO. Their first meeting of the year is September 9, 2024 at 6:00 PM in the NES Library.
Once again, we are looking forward to an exciting year with your Blue Streak. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Mrs. Theresa Solar, Principal Mrs. Melissa Schultz, Assistant Principal
